The Secret Miracle is a short story found in the collection Fictions by Jorge Luis Borges.
The story is about an author who is sentenced to death by the Nazis for being a Jew. First feeling pure fear at the prospect, he soon calms and while he awaits his execution he remembers a story he wanted to complete. He asks God for more time to complete and improve his story. When he is about to be shot, time freezes. God has granted him the time to finish the story: a whole year, but he cannot write neither talk nor escape. He must complete the story in his mind. When he finally completes it, time starts to pass again and he is killed.
