Magic realism is a form of fiction where the majority of the story is realistic, but one or two "magical" elements are introduced. While there are some similarities to fantasy or to science fiction, and some disagree that it is actually a separate genre, others say it is distinguished by being realistic except for one or two factors.

Jorge Luis Borges is considered by some to be one of the first writers in the magical realism genre; by others he is considered as a predecessor.[1]

Examples: Like Water for Chocolate, The Snow Child
