Little House in the Big Woods is the first novel in the Little House series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. It was first published in 1932. It tells of growing up on the "frontier" as the United States grew westward. Ms. Wilder tells the stories of how things were when she was little Laura in a house in the Big Woods of Wisconsin in the 1870s.

The next book in the series is Farmer Boy followed by Little House on the Prairie.

In the Little House in the Big Woods, the reader is introduced to Laura, her older sister Mary, her baby sister Carrie and parents, Charles and Caroline Ingalls. The story is semi-autobiographical. It tells of living in a log cabin in the woods with no immediate neighbors. The book tells about some of the games the children played, their chores and how their parents worked to provide for the family.
