Homeland (ISBN 0-7869-3953-2) is a fantasy novel in the Forgotten Realms canon written by R. A. Salvatore, first published in 199 by TSR, Inc. It was originally published as Book One of the Dark Elf Trilogy. In 2004, Wizards of the Coast republished the novel under the heading "The Legend of Drizzt, Book One."
Homeland follows the story of Drizzt Do'Urden, a Drow, or Dark Elf from around the time and circumstances of his birth and follows his upbringing among the Drow. A large portion of the book is devoted to the schooling and training of Drizzt wherein he excels at all aspects of warfare.
The story introduces Menzoberranzan, the Drow homeland. Drizzt's struggle is to follow his moral principles in a land where such sentiments are threatened by his kin and race including his mother, Matron Malice.
The storyline continues with Exile.
