Herbert George Wells, better known as H. G. Wells, (September 21, 1866 - August 13, 1946) was a British author whose works include novels and short stories. He is best known today for his science fiction works, especially The War of The Worlds and The Time Machine. Wells also wrote works of non-fiction, including biographies, a history of the world and essays.

He, along with Jules Verne and Hugo Gernsback, is considered to be the father of the science fiction genre.

He influenced many other authors and has been portrayed in others' works.
