Sense and Sensibility is a novel by Jane Austen. It was first published in 1811.

The novel is an exploration of the balance between thought and feeling. The two sisters, Elinor and Marianne Dashwood, are the main characters. Elinor is so governed by her sense that even the people closest to her often do not know how she feels about things. On the other extreme, Marianne makes sure everyone knows how she feels and allows her behavior to go way beyond the acceptable bounds of her society.
