A Free Life by National Book Award winning author Ha Jin is a novel about an immigrant to the United States in the 1990s. Han, from mainland China, struggles with creating a new life, letting go of the past, and staying true to his identity. It is not only about the immigrant experience but the journeys we all take in life. The novel concludes with several poems written by Ha Jin as the character of Han.
